Police Lathicharge on peaceful Hindu protest in Kolkata

Kolkata: Lathicharge on peaceful protest by Hindus. Yesterday, on 23 December 2025, Hindus were carrying out a peaceful protest against the atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh, on which the government ordered lathicharge.

A Hindu man (Dipu Das) was beaten to death in Bangladesh. Protests were held in several Indian cities on Tuesday. The incident has sparked widespread anger and further strained already tense India-Bangladesh relations.

Kolkata: Lathicharge on peaceful Hindu protest

Yesterday, December 23, 2025, a peaceful protest was organized by the Vishwa Hindi Parishad in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, against Bangladesh. A ‘Hindu Hunkar Padayatra’ (Hindu roar march) was taken out to the office of the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission on Tuesday. However, the police stopped this march. The march was proceeding peacefully and was going to surround the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh. The police resorted to a lathi charge and treated the protesters as if they were criminals. They were beaten from head to toe. If they wanted to control the crowd peacefully, they had other forces available and could have dispersed the crowd in a peaceful manner. If they had to use lathis, they could have used them below the waist. But they spared no one, hitting people on the head and eyes.

Know what the police has said on this Lathicharge

Police say that the protesters tried to break through the police barricades. When the situation escalated, the police had to resort to a baton charge, in which several protesters were seriously injured, and many others were taken into custody.
The march was supposed to proceed through a limited area, but the protesters were determined to move forward. Despite police warnings, they continued to try to advance. This sparked a firefight between both sides. Police had to resort to lathicharge in response.

बांग्लादेश उप उच्चायोग के सामने स्थिति नियंत्रण में है. वहां अवैध रूप से इकट्ठा होने की कोशिश करने वालों को हटा दिया गया है. अब तक इलाके में 19 लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया गया है. इन लोगों को एहतियात के तौर पर गिरफ्तार किया गया है. विदेशी राजनयिक कर्मचारियों की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने और परिसर के घेराव के किसी भी प्रयास को विफल करने के लिए उप-उच्चायोग कार्यालय के पास बड़ी संख्या में पुलिस बल तैनात हैं.
