Angel Chakma from Northeast India Die because of racial discrimination. As you may have seen on social media, Angel Chakma, a resident of Tripura, has passed away.

Angel Chakma had come to the capital of Uttarakhand to study. His father said that he had gone to the market to buy vegetables and not to get into a fight with anyone. While he was in the market, people on two motorcycles approached him and started calling him “Chinese” and “Momo.” Angel Chakma protested, saying that they were Indians and asked why they were being addressed in that manner. Chakma started getting beaten on this matter.
Angel Chakma’s father makes serious allegations against the police
Angel Chakma’s father says that if the police had helped on time, his son would be alive today. The father’s name is Tarun Prasad Chakma. He said, “The police did not provide timely assistance at the time of the incident. If action had been taken at the right time, perhaps my son would be alive today.”
He further added, “I don’t want any child or student from Northeast India to go through such a situation. This is not just my son’s problem, but a problem for the entire country.”

What happened to Angel Chakma?
Angel Chakma was studying for his MBA in Dehradun and was a final-year student. He had gone to the market with his brother on December 9, 2025, to buy vegetables. A tragic incident occurred in the market that cost Angel his life. Some young men made derogatory remarks about his appearance and language. Angel Chakma protested, saying that they shouldn’t speak to him like that as he was an Indian citizen. The young men then attacked him, beating him and stabbing him with a knife. Angel was admitted to Graphic Era Hospital in a critical condition, where he fought for his life in the ICU for 17 days, but unfortunately, he could not be saved.

What has the police done so far with the criminals of Angel Chakma?
According to Selakui police, five accused, including two minors, were taken into custody after the incident. Initially, a case was registered under assault charges, but after Angel’s death, a murder charge has been added.
One accused in this case is still at large and has reportedly fled to Nepal. The police have formed a team to apprehend him and a reward of Rs. 25,000 has been announced for his arrest.
The names of these five accused are:
- Avinash Negi
- Suraj Khawas
- Sumit Kumar
- Shaurya Rajput
- Ayush Badoni

How long will the people of the Northeast have to face such things? This is not the first such incident to happen to an Indian living in the Northeast. There is widespread anger among students and organizations in the Northeast following Angel Chakma’s death. Candlelight marches and protests are being held in several parts of the country. The demand for justice for Angel has also intensified on social media.
