In Bhagirathpura, more than 10 people have lost their lives due to contaminated water. This incident occurred in Indore, which is considered one of the cleanest cities in India.

Several people have died in the Bhagirathpura area of ​​Indore, Madhya Pradesh, due to contaminated water. A report from the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College has also confirmed that the cause of death was solely the contaminated water. Local residents had complained many times about this contaminated water, but no action was taken. For several days, the tap water had a foul smell, and its color also appeared unusual. Some people started boiling the water before drinking it, but many others were forced to use the water as it was due to lack of alternatives.

So far, 10 deaths have been reported, and according to local sources, the number could be as high as 14. More than 2800 people have fallen ill in the last 10 days. 291 people have been admitted to the hospital. It is also reported that 32 people are admitted to the ICU.
You will be surprised to know that a tender worth 2.4 crore rupees was issued in August 2025 for the repair of the pipeline in Bhagirathpura. However, no action was taken on this tender. 1219 complaints were filed in October, November, and December regarding the Narmada water supply. But what happened to those complaints? Water samples were tested in the lab of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College. The report has been received and submitted to the health department. The report clearly confirms that people fell ill and some even died from drinking contaminated water. The initial investigation revealed that the drinking water was contaminated with dirt and dangerous bacteria due to a leak in the pipeline.
It is also important to know that a toilet was found built directly above the main drinking water pipeline in one area. During excavation work in the area, the drainage line burst. Sewage water mixed with the drinking water supply line, contaminating the water tank. The water that people were drinking every day was mixed with sewage. This contaminated water devastated many families.
